Through sensors printed directly onto shoe soles, it is possible to measure and analyze a person's gait, foot positioning, weight distribution or sore spots. This data can come in handy for physiotherapy, orthopedics or sports medicine and will allow doctors to tailor soles and shoes to their patients' precise needs. The SOLES project team from the Advanced Sensors and Electronics Technologies Research Unit around Tutku, Jürgen Kosel, Sherjeel Khan, Mani Teja Vijjapu and Emily Bezerra is developing technologies to print these sensors directly onto shoe soles using additive manufactoring, thus decreasing material loss and enabling a more sustainable production.
